Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce attack the Chicago Bears in front of the crowd and Brittany applauds them: The Bears looked back in sadness

The NFL almost had a very different outlook in 2017 when it seemed as though Patrick Mahomes was headed to the Chicago Bears before being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs instead, leading to Travis Kelce to make a joke at the Bears’ expense about the drastically different reality that exists today.

Mahomes, since being picked by the Chiefs, has gone on to become a three-time NFL champion since winning his first ring in 2019 and bids to create an unprecedented third Super Bowl win in a row throughout 2024/25, whilst the Bears finished with a .412 record and plum last in the NFC North.

But it was the Bears who had the chance to select the legendary quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft, but for some reason they opted to go for Mitchell Trubisky. It’s fair to say their pick hasn’t done too well, moving organizations in four of his five seasons since 2020. “He [Mahomes] gets just about every call you can think of,” said Kelce at the Big Slick KC event. “Except for this one time on draft day, there was this one team that just couldn’t…”

Kelce’s well-timed joke came with a large image of the Chicago Bears above and behind him, resulting in countless laughs from the audience which included Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, and countless celebrities such as Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis, Finn Wolfhard and James Austin Johnson.

The panel show was just one event of several that will happen, such as a softball game, as the organizers, promoters and attendees all look to raise money for the Children’s Mercy Hospital to help sick children.
