BREAKING: No Promises That Princess Kate Will Appear Again This Summer

Princess Kate may have dominated headlines with her first public appearance since her cancer news when she attended Trooping the Color in London on Saturday, but any future summer appearances should be anticipated with caution, a British news show has heard.

Discussing the princess’ return to public life with Sky News anchor Kay Burley on Monday, Newsweek’s chief royal correspondent, Jack Royston, said that the palace have been careful not to make promises about any future events. “They have said we might see her again over the summer,” he said. “I would be looking at Wimbledon as a possibility. She loves tennis and I don’t think anyone would begrudge her going out and enjoying herself. It all just comes down to how she’s feeling.”

Kate released her first public statement since her cancer announcement on Friday, revealing her plan to attend the Trooping the Color celebrations of King Charles III’s official birthday and hopes to begin making more public appearances. After saying she had been “blown away” by all the messages of support and encouragement from well-wishers since her cancer announcement, she explained that though she was “making good progress,” her treatment will remain ongoing for “a few more months.”

“On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home,” she said on Friday. “I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet. I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal.”

This carefully chosen wording suggests that though Kate is hopeful that she could attend some events over the coming weeks, it will depend on her day-to-day recovery from treatment. “Them saying ‘you may see her again over the summer’ is not them promising anything,” Royston told Burley. “There’s no contract there. If she can, I’m sure she would love to do it.”

Summer is traditionally one of the busiest periods for the royal family in the buildup to their vacations during the school holidays. Charles has followed his mother’s tradition of taking up residency at Balmoral Castle in Scotland during part of August and September. Over the years of their marriage, Prince William and Kate have spent parts of their summer vacations visiting the castle too.

In the weeks building up to this, the royals have the Trooping the Colour celebrations each June, leading into Garter Day at Windsor Castle, followed by the Royal Ascot horse racing meeting, Scotland Week and the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.
