Billionaire singer-songwriter Taylor Swift took to the stage in a blue and silver sequinned bodysuit as she thanked the “captivating” crowd at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. Taylor Swift congratulated a couple who got engaged during her record-breaking Eras tour’s opening night in Edinburgh, Scotland, calling it “amazing”.
She lauded the exuberant crowd at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh as making the concert “the most highly attended stadium show in Scottish history”. During the magical summer evening, Swift spotted and recognized a couple in the audience who had just got engaged.
“I’m pretty sure I just saw someone who got engaged. Did it happen? Yeah? ” she asked excitedly before adding: “Congratulations. Wow. Man, that’s amazing. Thank you for doing that at my concert. That’s a big moment. Huge.” Dazzling in a blue and silver sequinned bodysuit, the billionaire songstress performed an ensemble of numbers from her diverse musical eras – sticking to the fresh rhythm set for her European gigs.
Sharing with her fans that she had not been able to perform in Scotland for nearly ten years, she expressed her uncertainties about what this experience would be like. However, ahead of her performance, she was informed that she was going to make history: “We’ve checked this 20 times and this is the most highly attended stadium show in Scottish history.” A grateful Swift said: “Thank you Edinburgh for welcoming a lass to your city.” Acknowledging how embraced she felt by her Scots fans, she expressed her regret for not having all her tours come to Scotland, noting that their warm welcome was unforgettable for her.
Illustrating the energy of her fans, she admitted: “The volume of singing. The dancing. You guys are performing on another level. I can’t stop looking at the crowd. Like, I’m captivated.” Sporting a sequinned T-shirt emblazoned with the words “This is not Taylor’s version” while belting out her hit “22,” she handed her black fedora to a young fan who was dressed similarly.
She continued to heap praise on Scotland during the Evermore and Folklore segment of the show, quipping that post-lockdown life was “so much TV, so much white wine, covered in cat hair” and that she “escaped into” an “imaginary world which I now realize is just based on videos I’ve seen online of Scotland”. A massive crowd of nearly 73,000 fans flocked to the stadium in Edinburgh for the first of three nights, with the tour set to continue through Liverpool, Cardiff, London, and Dublin.
