Royal Family LIVE: Prince Harry fans all say the same thing as Duke to return to UK without Meghan
Prince Harry will return to the UK in the coming days but will not be joined by Meghan Markle.
He will be at the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral, on Wednesday 8 May, an Invictus Games spokesperson confirmed. It follows days of speculation as to whether he will attend the service, which will mark the 10th anniversary of the games for injured servicemen and women. Actor Damian Lewis is expected to recite the Invictus poem at St Paul’s.
A statement published on the Invictus Games’ social media accounts read: “The Invictus Games Foundation will celebrate 10 years of changing lives and saving lives with a ‘Service of Thanksgiving’ at St Paul’s Cathedral on May 8th. We will be joined by our Patron, Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, actor Damian Lewis and members of the worldwide Invictus Community to mark the occasion.”
The statement does not say that Meghan Markle will be attending. The event is scheduled just two days after Harry’s son Archie celebrates his fifth birthday. Harry appeared to ‘snub’ his father when he chose not to wear the Coronation medal while presenting an award, it has been claimed. Prince Harry filmed a video this week praising US Sergeant First Class Elizabeth Marks for her courage and willpower despite suffering hip injuries.
He is seen in the clip wearing a number of medals – but the one he recieved from his father after the coronation last year is curiously absent, according to some observers. Fans of the Sussexes rushed to celebrate his return to his home country, as one person wrote: “I’m so glad Prince Harry will be able to make it. Congratulations on 10 years!”. Another said “So exciting!”, while a different social media user wrote: “Congratulations to all of you especially Prince Harry for working so hard to make this happen. I wish Duchess of Sussex could join you but I am still happy to celebrate all of you.”
King Charles could meanwhile play “peacemaker” between his two feuding sons after his return to royal duties following cancer treatment, an expert has said. Former royal butler Grant Harrold believes Prince Harry will meet Prince William when he comes to the UK – and says their father could hold a vital role in the brothers putting their differences behind them.
“It is very likely that Harry and William will see each other next month and anything is possible,” Harrold explained to Sky News Australia, adding: “The King will want the brothers to patch things up so it’s more than likely that he could play peacemaker.”
