Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘deny refusing King Charles’s £18k Archie birthday gift,’ A royal expert has claimed that King Charles is keen to give his grandson Prince Archie, a unique gift for his fifth birthday.
Royal author Tom Quinn says that King Charles had suggested giving Archie a shepherd’s hut playhouse, complete with bunks and bookshelves.
He noted that the monarch had previously gifted a similar hut to Prince George, and wished to do the same for Archie, demonstrating equal affection for all five of his grandchildren. However, Quinn alleges that Meghan Markle wants Archie to associate his birthdays with American traditions, as he frequently asks about his UK-based Royal Family.
The author shared that Archie, who is sixth in line to the British throne, is fascinated by the idea of his grandfather living in a castle, and Meghan fears that a similarly lavish gift might further pique his interest in his royal heritage. These claims have been dismissed by a source close to the Sussexes, as Mr Quinn told the Mirror: “Charles also suggested that he give Archie a playhouse, not a plastic child’s playhouse, but a superb hand-made shepherd’s hut, complete with bunks and bookshelves.
Charles hates the idea that Harry might think he favours one grandchild over another and he has already given Prince George a similar hut which reputedly cost a cool £18,000.” He added: “He would love to give Archie something similar but knows that Meghan and Harry are against it. Meghan wants Archie to associate his birthday with all things American because Archie is already constantly asking about his royal family in the UK.”
“Archie loves the idea that his grandad lives in a castle and Meghan is worried that a magnificent shepherd’s hut or similar extravagant present will only increase Archie’s growing interest in his royal connections.” The comments come as the author said Charles will make a sweet gesture to mark Archie’s fifth birthday today.
The youngster has only met his grandfather on several occasions, with his parents Meghan and Harry being caught in a bitter feud with the Royal Family. However, it is believed Charles is “desperate” to change things. Mr Quinn claimed the monarch will reach out to his younger son, Harry, so he can wish Archie a happy birthday. Quinn also claimed the King has discussed the idea of video-calling his son and grandson.
He added: “King Charles dislikes new technology, but is desperate to keep in touch with his grandchildren on the other side of the Atlantic so he will certainly call Harry and wish Archie Happy Birthday. Charles has been asking about video calling, but according to his aides, he’s uncomfortable with the idea. If he makes an ordinary telephone call to Harry it means he can have a quick word with Archie without the need to talk to Meghan, a prospect that fills him with dread.”
Archie and his sister, Princess Lilibet, have barely spent any time in the UK. Despite being born in Britain, Archie moved to the US with his parents when he was only a year old. The young royals have only flown over to the UK on one occasion – for Queen Elizabeth’s magnificent Platinum Jubilee.
