Patrick Mahomes Gets Praised for His Harrison Butker Stance as QB1 Refused to Throw His Teammate Under the Bus
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker recently made headlines for his controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College. Despite the backlash, the 28-year-old has found support within his team, particularly from his quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes addressed the media for the first time since the Chiefs kicker’s speech and made it clear that, while he disagrees with some of Butker’s views, he stands by his teammate’s character. Patrick’s statements have received enough criticism but during “OutKick The Show” with Clay Travis, he praised Mahomes for his statements on Harrison
Travis remarked, “Harrison doesn’t have to agree with him on everything. Buck and I do a show every day for three hours, and we don’t agree on everything. I’ve been married for almost 20 years, and there’s plenty of things, trust me, that my wife thinks I believe that are crazy and vice versa. That’s how life is. This is the way that the responses should be. I give credit to Mahomes for his stance.”
By highlighting his own experiences of disagreement with his show co-host and his wife, Travis underscores the importance of coexistence and respect despite conflicting opinions like Harrison and Mahomes. Patrick said, “I know Harrison. I’ve known him for seven years, and I judge him by the character that he shows every single day, and that’s a good person. That’s someone who cares about the people around him, cares about his family, and wants to make a good impact in society.”
Patrick further mentioned that in a locker room, there are many people from various backgrounds with diverse views, and it’s natural that not everyone will agree on everything. He recognizes that Harrison is making an effort to guide people positively as Butker uses his platform to express his beliefs.
Harrison Butker suggested that women should prioritize being homemakers over professional achievements. He said, “I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.” He further added,“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”
Butker further directed part of his speech to the male graduates, urging them to embrace their masculinity. He also criticized modern cultural trends and policies, including Pride Month, birth control, and COVID restrictions. He described Catholic pride as “not the deadly sin sort of pride that has an entire month dedicated to it, but true God-centered pride,” which many perceived as a criticism of LGBTQ+ Pride Month.
His speech has drawn a wide range of reactions and Mahomes’ statement underscores the significance of judging individuals by their daily actions even if their opinions and beliefs are different than your own.
