Katy Perry steps out with husband Orlando Bloom after getting slammed for ‘deflecting’ Dr. Luke controversy…See More π
Katy Perry looked jovial as her partner Orlando Bloom trailed behind her in New York City.
The Fireworks singer, 39, wore a highlighter pink Nike hoodie and sweatpants and kept her raven hair pulled back into a sleek ponytail.
She carried a cup of coffee and wore black sunglasses while the Lord of the Rings actor, 47 kept things casual in an oversized blue t-shirt, grey jeans and a blue ball cap.
The sighting comes after the American Idol judge got slammed for both for working with Dr. Luke on her album Women’s Work and ‘deflecting’ from that fact.
Fans accused her of ‘gaslighting’ them with her non-response to the outrage over her work with the music producer Kesha was embroiled in a decade-long legal battle with.
Katy’s pop peer Kesha accused Dr. Luke of sexual and physical abuse. He went on to sue Kesha for defamation in 2014 but a settlement was reached in June 2023 before it went to trial.
Katy’s new album is centered on ‘female empowerment,’ which left many fans ‘upset’ and ‘disappointed’ about Dr. Luke’s involvement.
Katy addressed the controversy for the first time on Wednesday’s episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, telling host Alex Cooper that Dr. Luke is just ‘one of many’ producers who helps ‘facilitate’ her music.
But she insisted that the album is based on her own experiences β not the ones of those she works with β before bizarrely pivoting the conversation to how motherhood has ’empowered’ her as an artist.
Fans of the Teenage Dream hitmaker were furious and not afraid to air their grievances.
‘the way she didnt even answer the question lol,’ one fan tweeted on X (formerly Twitter).
Another wrote: ‘She pretty much said nothing??? Like let’s not get gaslighted here because she just basically revealed that she didn’t have to collab with him but it was her choice..’
Katy’s response was also slammed as ‘textbook deflection,’ with one person pointing out that she ‘still chose to work with Dr. Luke even though there were several collaborators she’s worked with in the past.
Katy said she understood her collaboration with Dr. Luke started a lot of conversations, but still didn’t deal with them directly.
‘I understand that it started a lot of conversations. And he was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with,’ she said, insisting that the lyrics come from her lived experience.
‘When I speak about Woman’s World, I speak about feeling so empowered now as a mother, as a woman, giving birth creating life, creating another set of organs, a brain, a heart,’ she said.
‘I created a whole whole heart and I did it. I’m still doing it. And I’m still a matriarch. And feeling really grounded in that, that’s where I’m speaking from.’
