Before Affleck and Lopez rekindled their flame, Affleck dated fellow actor Ana de Armas. The couple fell hard and fast in love, but it wasn’t long before their romance fizzled out. The couple met on the set of Deep Water and fell in love in 2020.

“They hit it off when they first met about the movie, and things have really heated up since they started working side by side,” an insider told Life & Style regarding the couple. “Ana admired Ben’s work, but she had no idea how smart, engaging, and handsome he was in person. She’s definitely smitten, and so is he.”

Affleck and Armas adored each other but broke up in January 2021. A source told People that the couple was at “different points in their lives,” and Armas ended the romance because she didn’t want to stay in Los Angeles.

Armas discussed her relationship with Affleck in Elle. She called the media frenzy surrounding their relationship “horrible.”

“Going through it [myself] confirmed my thoughts about, ‘This is not the place for me to be,’” she continued. “It became a little bit too much. There’s no escape. There’s no way out. … It’s always the feeling of something that you don’t have, something missing. It’s a city that keeps you anxious.”

A source told People that Ben Affleck was incredibly “upset” about his split from Ana de Armas.

“Ben really wanted their relationship to work,” the source claimed. “Ana has a great energy. Ben was always very happy when Ana was around. She likes to stay healthy and inspired Ben to keep staying healthy, too.”

Unfortunately, the couple had different priorities. Affleck wanted to stay in LA with his kids, while Armas hoped to travel. “When she is not working, she wants to travel,” the source added. “She doesn’t want to settle down in Los Angeles. Ben needs to live in LA since his kids do.”

While Armas didn’t like the public attention on her relationship, Affleck likely didn’t appreciate it either. On Kevin Heart’s talk show, Hart to Heart, he spoke about why the public perceives him as angry. In the past, he also mentioned how he wanted to live his life out of the spotlight, which led to issues while dating and marrying Jennifer Lopez.

“People see me, and they’re like, ‘Why is this dude always mad?’ Because somebody has their camera sticking in my face. And I’m like, ‘OK, here we go,’” Affleck said.
