Lobel, who traveled to Nigeria to investigate the story further, was shocked by what he discovered. He recounted his encounter with a Nigerian computer merchant who revealed that one of his customers had sold his kidney in Egypt to afford a laptop necessary for his DJ career.

“We met the gentleman who owned the computer store. He told us about a customer who had traveled to Egypt to sell his kidney so he could buy a laptop and transition from manual labor to becoming a DJ,” Lobel explained. “The risks he took and the lack of aftercare he received were alarming.”

Lobel expressed deep concern for the health of the DJ, noting that the man appeared unwell and likely lacked access to the expensive and complex aftercare needed after such a procedure. “The shop owner said this guy came to him, and he didn’t look well. One fears the aftercare, which is very expensive and complicated, wasn’t happening. It’s illegal for a reason,” he added.

The documentary highlights the lengths some Nigerians are willing to go to improve their lives, underscoring the desperation and dangers involved in illegal organ trade.
