The Toronto International Film Festival is back this week for its 49th edition and it’s set to bring its best lineup of films and celebrities yet.
This year’s festival takes place from Sept. 5 to 15 and is presented by Rogers. It will feature 278 films spanning special presentations, world premieres, documentaries and more.
Some celebrities that will be in attendance this year are Ben Stiller, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Cate Blanchett, Robbie Williams, Riz Ahmed, and Rebel Wilson, among others.
Here are some other celebrities that are confirmed to be in attendance for TIFF and the films they’ll be walking the red carpet for:
Amy Adams
American actress Amy Adams will be gracing the red carpet for the world premiere of Nightbitch. Directed by Marielle Heller, the film follows the life of an overworked, stay-at-home suburban mother who has reached the limits of motherhood. As emotions build and tensions rise, she soon finds herself unleashing a newfound, animalistic power and identity.
Will Ferrell
Emmy-award winning actor and comedian Will Ferrell will pull the heartstrings of Torontonians with his touching documentary Will & Harper. The film, directed by Josh Greenbaum, sees Ferrell and Saturday Night Live alumni Harper Steele on a road trip across the United States following Steele’s announcement of her transition. The film is a new take on road movies and explores trans culture.
Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez
Here’s a duo no one expected to see coming. Acclaimed actresses Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez have teamed up to bring audiences Emilia Pérez. This Spanish film and musical has Saldaña portraying a lawyer in Mexico City tasked with helping a cartel leader undergo sex reassignment surgery in order to create a new life for herself and avoid the authorities, all while making sure the wife (Gomez) and the kids are taken care of.
Angelina Jolie
Iconic actress Angelina Jolie returns as a director for the first time since 2017 for the world premiere of Without Blood. Jolie is not unfamiliar with the theme of war based on her past work, In the Land of Blood and Honey (2011) and First They Killed My Father (TIFF ’17). Her new film stars another legendary actor, Salma Hayek, opposite Demián Bichir, as they navigate the long-term effects of war.
Andrea Bocelli
Fans of classic Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will finally be able to learn more about the singer beyond the likes of a stage. In Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe, director Cosmia Spender captures the life of Bocelli over the last 30 years and how he’s become one of the most prolific voices in the world.
Pharrell Williams
Director Morgan Neville tells the life story of singer and producer Pharrell Williams through a LEGO animated feature debut called Piece by Piece. This film is a creative narrative of the famous artist and takes the audience through every momental stage from his upbringing in Virginia to the formation of the band N.E.R.D. The film also features the voices of celebrities and rappers, Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, and Jay-Z.
