CRUEL SUMMER: Chiefs star who fell out of favor and was ‘criticized by Taylor Swift’ Kansas City suffered a major injury blow over the weekend faces cut after being ‘buried’ on depth chart… See more
KANSAS City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney is reportedly facing being cut.
The speedy wideout made crucial mistakes against the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots last season.
Toney, 25, was a first-round pick for the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL Draft.
He failed to deliver on his promise and was traded to the Chiefs for third and sixth-round picks in 2022.
NBC Sports claim that Toney is struggling to make the 53-man roster after being “buried” on the Chiefs depth chart.
The receiver was listed as a fifth-string option on the team’s latest unofficial listing, with six players ahead of him in the pecking order for a starting spot.
Toney is struggling with an ankle injury, which will not help his fight to move up the depth chart before the cuts later this month.
Some NFL fans believed Taylor Swift aimed a dig at Toney in her latest album when it was released earlier this year.
A song titled The Alchemy, about her relationship with Travis Kelce, contains lyrics calling out “amateurs” and asking for them to be cut.
Swift, however, has not spoken out on the lyrics herself and any suggestion it was directed at Toney is merely speculation.
Fellow wideout Marquise “Hollywood” Brown was hospitalized after suffering an injury during the preseason loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday.
Brown suffered a collarbone injury called a sternoclavicular joint dislocation, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
Hill missed four games with a similar injury before returning just over one month later.
“I think he’ll miss some time. We’ll just see where it’s at, I mean, I said that they’re kind of going through it right now and we’ll know more later on,” Reid said after the game, via NFL.com.
Brown suffered the injury on the first snap of his Chiefs’ preseason debut.
He caught an 11-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes before he was tackled to the ground by Jaguars cornerback Montaric Brown.
Brown received medical attention and headed to the locker room afterward.
Rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy replaced Brown, who didn’t return to the game.
