Exclusive:International Gymnastics Federation Justifies Decision That Caused Simone Biles’ Mistake…See More.
After falling from the balance beam and failing to medal in the final, Simone Biles complained about the lack of music or background noise in the event. Clearly, for the USA Gymnastics star, it affected her performance.
For those who missed it, Biles scored just 13.100 in the balance beam final after losing her balance and slipping. She ended up in fifth place, just ahead of her USA teammate Suni Lee, who also fell off the apparatus and scored a similar 13.100.
Biles said that the lack of music felt “really weird and awkward.” She added that they had asked multiple times to have some music or even a background noise, but their pleas fell on deaf ears.
With no background noise to help them concentrate better, Biles and the other athletes could only hear the noise from the crowd.
“I’m not really sure what happened there, but yeah, not our favorite. None of us liked it,” Biles explained, per the Associated Press.
In an email to the Associated Press, however, the International Gymnastics Federation explained the decision and emphasized that the absence of music was “part of the sport presentation plan at Paris 2024.”
