‘INNOCENT BYSTANDER’ Travis Kelce claims ‘I was caught off guard’ by Dallas Mavericks jumbotron and doesn’t know why he was booed by fans: Travis is not set to play in Dallas this season

The All-Pro tight end, 34, made his way to Dallas to watch both the NBA and NHL Playoffs, linking up with teammates along the way. On Saturday, Travis took to a suite in the American Airlines Center to watch as the Dallas Stars beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 in Game 2 of the NHL Western Conference Finals. The next day, he returned to AAC along with Chiefs teammates Marquise Brown, Patrick Mahomes, and his wife Brittany.

The group sat courtside as the Dallas Mavericks beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 116-107 in Game 3 of the NBA Western Conference Finals. During the game, the jumbotron cut to Travis, prompting a chorus of boos from home fans. Shortly after, the focus turned to Patrick, a Texas native, resulting in loud cheers. In the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, which Travis co-hosts with his brother and former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason, he reflected on what was an “off the hook” game.

“I got booed twice, it’s whatever. I get it,” Travis said. I’m not from Dallas, I’m just kind of like an innocent bystander.” Pressed by Jason as to why he was being so heavily booed, Travis admitted to being unsure. “I don’t know. Maybe they just don’t like the Chiefs, I don’t know,” he replied. Travis went on to explain that his jumbotron appearance caught him “off guard.” At the time he was in the middle of taking a selfie with others around him when Patrick suddenly made him aware that he was being broadcast to thousands of fans.

“‘Oh! I’m on the jumbotron!'” Travis recalled thinking. “And I heard all of the boos, and I’m just like, ‘Oh, s**t I’m getting booed! Alright, nice. Thanks. “Nice to see you guys Dallas. Appreciate the warm welcome.’ “And then they showed Pat and everybody was like ‘Yeah!'” Although Travis seemed understanding in this regard, calling Patrick the “best football player in the world.” Dallas locals may not have much love for Travis, but he seems to have a soft spot for the city, and more specifically the Cowboys.

“I grew up a huge Jason Witten appreciator,” he said of the legendary tight end. “The Cowboys were always the f*****g boys when they had Deion [Sanders] and Emmitt [Smith].” Travis even admitted to previously wanting to be a Cowboy. Jason, however, didn’t believe a word of it. “Dude, stop saying that,” he responded. “You never wanted to be a Cowboy.” Travis won’t have an opportunity to head to Dallas this season with Kansas City not scheduled to play the Cowboys. Jason, by comparison, will travel to AT&T Stadium on November 11 as the newest member of ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown crew. He’ll preview Dallas’ game against the Houston Texans.
