BREAKING: The UK has officially gone against the grain, proactively refusing to participate in US and Israel attacks on Iran and banning US fighter jets from taking off from British military bases.

The United Kingdom has taken a cautious and controversial position in the escalating conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran. While Washington and Tel Aviv launched coordinated military strikes on Iranian targets, the British government chose not to participate in the offensive campaign.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer defended the decision, stating that Britain would avoid being drawn into another large-scale Middle East war and would instead focus on diplomacy and regional stability. The move reflects lingering political sensitivity in the UK after the Iraq War and strong domestic opposition to new military interventions.

Initial refusal to support the strikes
Before the attacks began, the United States reportedly asked to use British military bases—including RAF Fairford in England and the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean—as staging grounds for operations against Iran. The British government initially declined that request, meaning the UK was not directly involved in the offensive airstrikes.

The decision strained relations with U.S. President Donald Trump, who criticized the UK for not supporting its closest ally during the military campaign. British officials, however, insisted that their priority was preventing a wider regional war.

Later shift to limited “defensive” support
As Iran retaliated with missiles and drone attacks across the region, the UK adjusted its stance slightly. London eventually allowed U.S. aircraft to use some British bases for limited defensive operations, particularly strikes aimed at Iranian missile systems threatening regional allies.

British fighter jets have also conducted defensive missions in the Middle East, intercepting Iranian drones and helping protect allied countries such as Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar. However, the UK government maintains that it is not participating in the offensive bombing campaign against Iran.
