Breaking News -Mike Tyson handed new heavyweight world ranking following Jake Paul loss..See More ๐
Mike Tyson’s lackluster performance against Jake Paul on Friday night has earned him a new heavyweight world ranking.
Despite failing to deliver, Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson had the world watching, and the heavyweight world rankings have been updated as a result.
While fans have since criticized the fight, much respect must go to Tyson for hanging with a man 31 years his younger for eight rounds. The lack of urgency on either side made for a difficult watch, especially considering the co-main event starring Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano is earning Fight of the Year shouts.
In the days following the bout, BoxRec has updated its heavyweight rankings and Mike Tyson has a new listing.
Falling to defeat against Jake Paul originally landed Tyson in the 309th spot in the rankings. Shortly after, the boxing legend saw his ranking drop to 314th, which is where he currently resides.
Surprisingly, the 58-year-old is ranked below boxers with one single professional bout and others who have negative records in the ring.
Jake Paul accepts heavyweight boxing champion’s call out
Mike Tyson hoped for a devastating display against Jake Paul but isn’t too disheartened that he came up short on November 15.
“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won,” Tyson said in a post on social media. “I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in the ring one last time…”
To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you.”
In comparison to Tyson’s 314 ranking, Jake Paul will be happy to see himself climbing toward a significant position.
The YouTube star finds himself in 127th as a ranked heavyweight on BoxRec. This puts him among several highly-rated prospects in the sport and sees him close in on a coveted top 100 spot.
